PinKid was a business idea that I created for EAMA Inc. inspired by the frequent phone amber alerts that reported lost or stolen children in Canada within the area. While doing further research, there are multiples that I found that Canada ranks first in first-world countries with the most kidnappings. The objective of PinKid was to decrease the prevalence of kidnappings, especially involving children. The main idea is to create an app where parents can find their children through a bracelet that also acts like a colourful accessory.
The name that I was very persistent on was PinKid for various reasons. One of the reasons is the pin-dropping on a location on a mapping app. PinKid sounded friendly and catchy, knowing that the main target audience to approach was for parents and their children. Another reason that I picked PinKid was inspired by the character Pingu and penguins in general. Emperor penguins themselves all look identical. It's difficult to distinguish their differences, but they manage to find their families or soulmates.
Since I was doing a penguin theme, I created a bunch of adult and child Emperor penguins to match with the parent and child concept for the brand on Illustrator. Creating these cartoonish penguins also helps parents know that business idea is to help their children. I wanted to make sure that illustrations of the penguins were brightly coloured and cute so that when PinKid is marketed, it will be approachable to parents and children to see the branding and concept idea.
For the colour palettes, I incorporated various tints and shades of whites and blues to make it look like seem artic and match the penguin's surroundings. The bright orange is another main colour to contrast with the blues and whites and to match with the markings of the design with the emperor penguins. I implemented a lot of map icons with the backgrounds and image frames to match with the location and map theme to this brand. The map icon can be multipurposed as raindrops and icebergs since penguins live in the artic cold and are also near water.
The main part of the business idea is the bracelet. The intention of the design was to make the bracelet look fun and colourful to wear, comfortable and without the bulk that other competitor bracelets have. One of the main aspects about PinKid's bracelets is that they have various colours to choose made from durable and waterproof silicone and the bracelets were adjustable to fit every child until they get older. There is also a light feature to notify that the bracelet is in use.
