I was inspired by the streets and bustles of Kensington Market. It was during the pandemic and I was pretty sad during this time. I wanted something that was able to spark joy and happiness in this life. So I combined the two most special things that were so dear to me, frogs and Kensington Market.
When I was in the sketching process, I used a reference photo since drawing landscapes and architecture was not my strongest point in drawing and I wanted to diversify my drawing skills.
My favourite aspects of the drawing was replacing Kensington Market's names of businesses and streets around that area and parodying it with frog punned names and seeing what I could come up with. Another favourite aspect that I enjoyed while drawing the frog version of Kensington Market was drawing the frog pedestrians. One of the Easter eggs that I added for this drawing was Spider Frog because in real life, there was an actual Spider Man that would randomly appear sporadically while I would walk there after I was finished working at my internship.
Like the real life Kensington Market, you have many walks of life and different fashion styles. I really wanted to not capture the quirkiness that not only came with the pedestrians, but also with the bright colours and style that I used for it as well. In the end, when I was finished this piece it made me genuinely happy. When everything seems to fall apart, when everything seems so dark, there is a glimpse of light and joy you can share to everyone around you.
