I had the creative freedom to come up with my own business idea for the company. I was very passionate about wanting to make a change for the autism community. I was experienced by my own experience as an autistic person wanted ear devices that is specifically catered for autistic individuals and people with hyperacusis. The main objective is to find a solution for autistic people and people with hyperacusis to navigate around various that would be considered loud for people like me. And the main solution was to create an ear device where you can adjust the frequency of the ear device so that people can concentrate and communicate with others without the background noise being too distracting.
Some of my original ideas for the brand, I wanted to incorporate designs that incorporated with the autism community. One of the ideas that I thought about was incorporate the brand name with the number eight like NeurOcho or Eight Sound. The main reason is the number eight is shaped like the infinity symbol sideways and the infinity symbol is the official autism symbol that autistic people in the community accept. Ultimately I switched to implementing to using a butterfly theme since butterflies represent how people can release themselves and be set free. When people on the autism spectrum or people with hyperacusis feel trapped because their noise hypersensitivity, I want them to feel free and to navigate the world around them without holding back. I wanted to stick to the butterfly theme and went with the name Dutter because I took the word 'butterfly' and the D in Dutter represented disabilities and disabled people like myself.
The theming of designs consists of various hues and shades of violet and purple because I notice that not many designs are in purple or violet. Violet and purple represent uniqueness and a sense of individually. I specifically chose those violet and purple since blue and red make those colours. Blue represents men, and red represents women. I considered the statistics and experiences of autistic women being misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed more frequently than autistic men and violet and purple are the middle ground colours, and I wanted to make that everyone can use.
